COURSE INFO: This intermediate course is designed to merge the
boundaries between Art and Textiles. Working from visual research
and observational studies you will translate an image through
experimenting with various textiles techniques including
fabric/paper collage, hand and machine embroidery, cutwork,
dissolvable fabric and embellishment. You will produce a series of
exciting and creative samples that lead towards a final Textile Art
piece, which could be framed.
(Please don’t worry if you’re not great at drawing, we’re simply
observing any shapes or patterns that appear in your image).
Some experience of freehand embroidery would be advantageous,
however, not essential.

Piece of Dissolvable fabric (76cm 50cm)
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:
General art materials such as pencils, crayons, chalk/oil pastels,
watercolour paints would be useful
Scrap papers and fabrics
Embroidery hoop (8” recommended but slightly smaller or larger
would also be fine)
Machine and hand embroidery thread
General sewing equipment such as needles, fabric scissors etc.
You do not need to bring a machine as you will be sewing on our Brother sewing machines kindly supplied to us by Couling Sewing Machines
The craftea Cafe will be open to keep your sewing fuelled with hot drinks and treat yourself to one of their lovely cakes
